Agnes Tracey
Mattapan
There isn’t a day that goes by when Agnes Tracey isn’t looking to make a difference in someone’s life. As an advisory board member for the ABCD Mattapan Family Service Center, Tracey is an advocate for the seniors who attend the site’s various programs and workshops and is always looking for ways to bring people together.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Tracey has lived in Mattapan for 45 years and spent 26 years working at Partners HealthCare, now Mass General Brigham. After hearing about ABCD from a church friend, she began volunteering at the Mattapan FSC once a month, bagging and distributing groceries to seniors in the community. “I went, met many people, and loved it,” she says. “I’ve been there ever since.”
Tracey recently suffered an injury that prevents her from helping with food distribution, but her role on the advisory board allows her to continue engaging with and providing support to seniors in Mattapan: since coming on board, she has worked with the site director to bring in exercise classes and workshops on wellness, cardiovascular health, and insurance literacy.
Now one year into her new role, Tracey is more passionate than ever about creating more opportunities for Mattapan’s seniors to stay active, learn, and find community. “I’m always looking for something new,” she says. “Some ideas work, some don’t, but people always enjoy trying new things.”
