Changrong Zhao

Elder Services

Changrong Zhao keeps busy by volunteering at the Wang YMCA, and the Kwong Kow Chinese School in Chinatown. “I’m always curious and willing to try new things,” she explained. “When I saw the senior apartment needed volunteers, I stepped up. When churches distributed food, I wanted to join. Through a friend, I finally found my dream role as a Foster Grandparent. My passion even inspired others. I want everyone to feel this joy!”

At the YMCA, she works with infants in the baby class, and with preschoolers in the enlightenment class at the Kwong Chinese School. She helps them learn Chinese, do crafts, play games, and other necessary assistance. Changrong noted, “For shy kids, I give extra attention and love.”

She has been an ABCD Foster Grandparent for nearly two years. “To me, being a Foster Grandparent is deeply meaningful—it improves both mental and physical well-being for seniors. It’s a rare opportunity to connect with children, parents, teachers, and staff from all backgrounds. It’s truly a blessing!”

Changrong said she feels honored and humbled to be recognized as a Community Hero. “I’m thankful to the ABCD leadership and Jingbo Zhang for their support and recommendation. But I still have a lot to learn—I’m just a rookie compared to other amazing volunteers. I will keep working hard!”
