For Lorene Schettino, Esq., East Boston is so much more than just a place. It's the neighborhood where she grew up and also the community has dedicated her career to. As the executive director of the East Boston Foundation (EBF), Schettino manages and oversees the grant funds the organization distributes to various East Boston nonprofits in order to benefit and improve the community.

 

Schettino joined EBF in 2004, bringing to the organization both a strong legal background and a unique perspective: she herself was part of a youth summer jobs program in East Boston as a teenager. “I couldn’t be more grateful to have had that opportunity,” she says. “It brought me to where I am today.”

 

Schettino is honored to have received this award, citing EBF’s strong partnership with ABCD; since 2003, EBF has been providing funding for ABCD’s youth programming in East Boston, including the SummerWorks program. “The partnership perfectly encapsulates EBF’s mission,” Schettino says. “ The funding we provide to ABCD goes directly to providing youth in East Boston with a summer job and an income.” Since the partnership began, EBF’s funding has allowed ABCD to enroll hundreds of East Boston youth in various summer job programs.

 

Schettino is very passionate about continuing to make an impact in the community she knows so well: “It’s fantastic when youth can get a head start through the programs that EBF supports. They’re the most important part of the community.”
