Jessica Frazier
Head Start & Children's Services
Jessica Frazier was first a Head Start aunt, and later became a Head Start parent herself. A Dorchester resident, she remarked that her children are her primary motivation for volunteering with ABCD Head Start. “I wanted to have input into policies and teacher and staff recruitment and hiring.”
She has volunteered on the ABCD Policy Council in various capacities over the past several years — as a voting parent representative for her program, treasurer for three years and then as vice chair. Jessica said that volunteering in this capacity provides personal and professional enrichment. “You learn the inner workings of ABCD– the hiring process, grants and finances required to run an organization this big.”
In her current role as policy council chair, Jessica oversees the meetings, reviews reports and shares meeting outcomes with parents. She also advocates for other parents and regularly promotes Head Start in the community.
Her “biggest joy,” Jessica exuded, is Advocacy Day at the State House. “We bring cards to State Representatives created by Head Start students, and we have the opportunity to speak with policymakers.” She added, “Some reps have been a part of ABCD Head Start, and there is one in particular whose Head Start teacher is still teaching.”
She is passionate about the value of Head Start and the difference it has made in her family' s life. “I feel that I am doing the right thing as a parent by being involved, and would encourage others to do the same.”
Love is Jessica’s response to being named an ABCD Community Hero. “I was surprised about being nominated; however, I don’t do it for recognition,” she said. “I love my kids and I love Head Start.”
