Elaine Donovan

John F. Kennedy FSC

Born and raised in Charlestown, Elaine volunteers at the Kennedy Center, helping to secure in-kind donations, building community support for its programs, assisting with packing meals, and working in the food pantry. Elaine also supports a community coalition that connects the neighborhood's most vulnerable residents to recovery services and other vital resources and participates in Memories With Murphy, a program that aims to teach residents about the history of Charlestown

Having relied on the Kennedy Center's resources herself, Elaine saw firsthand the vital role the organization played in the community and wanted to give back. The center’s annual toy drive is especially meaningful to her: "Parents' faces light up when they see their child received the bike or toy or coat that they actually requested."

Elaine credits her parents for teaching her and her siblings to be proud of where they grew and to give back, saying "I don't consider myself a hero at all. I do what I do because it is the right thing."

Elaine works as Charlestown Liaison to Councilor Coletta Zapata and lives in Charlestown with her husband, Tim and their children. Outside of work and volunteering, she enjoys travel and spending time with family.
